I was having the same issue > a few years ago and Michael recommended the same thing to me. Setting up a Raspberry Pi and decoupling LMS from the storage has made life easier for me. It also improved performance of some plug-ins. It's an easy and inexpensive project to take on, and there are plenty of instructions on how to do it elsewhere in the forum. I'm happy to dig up links that I used, if needed.
