It's running from a straight command window. At first I tried from the terminal, but it didn't even start ;)
I'm a bit at a loss, really. I've been doing this for more than a decade, like many others, too. It should just work. From reading your log file it looks as if it didn't find some of the files which should live in LMS' CPAN folder.
