An obvious issue is that LMS is treating an mp3 file as APE. Perhaps the affected MP3 files have got APE tags written to them, either instead of or in addition to MP3 tags? Various media-players and tag editors support witing APEv2 tags to MP3 files, so it's certainly a possibility. You could try rewriting the tags for some of the problem MP3s, making sure that just ID3v2 tags are written, and then re-scan to see if any errors are thrown again for those MP3s. Fwiw, I use foobar2000 for editing tags, and it has a "Rebuild MP3 Stream" function that strips all non-MP3 data from a file and rewrites the tags in whatever format is currently set (eg, just ID3v2) other tag editors doubtless have something similar. Using it has solved a few otherwise intractable tag problems for me before now.
