A lot of services now require https support - https support in 7.9.1 was not great. I think old https support is the issues causing "error fetching RadioPlayer BBC data while playing so try fetching again"
If https support is not up to date - strange issues can occur. What version of IO::Sockets::SSL do you have - look in WebUI Settings/ Information ?
