I am at risk of taking on the role of a perennial crackpot who
obsessively suggests the same solution for every problem. But here
goes...

Is it possible that the HDD containing your music library spins down
while a long track is playing? This assumes that much, but not all, of
the track may have already been read into a buffer, so that several
minutes elapse before another disk read is attempted. At that point,
there is a delay while the disk spins up, resulting in a time out. But
the disk is ready before the command to start the next track times out.

Just curious: do you ever find that after this happens, LMS displays the
wrong track as "now playing"?

LMS 8 nightly; 3 Squeezelite players connected by powerline ethernet; 5
wireless players connected via Airplay Bridge; 1 SqueezeAmp player
no high-end or esoteric audio gear
1 Squeezebox Radio (upgraded UE Smart Radio) now mostly retired
