I never updated pcp because installing pcp/lms took me (years ago) very very long and I think I read updating is not very simple. In the past I installed it via an SD-card.
I don't know how much configuration you have to transfer. But with a recent pCP LMS is installed easily, with some mouse clicks. I'd definitely recommend taking the step. It'll also solve issues with outdated SSL libraries and the like.
