I have had this problem too. Really annoying listening to the harddisks in my NAS working hard for a period once every hour. I "solved" it by going to Settings -> Advanced -> Online Music Library Integration and setting -ALL -dropdowns on top to "Integrate online library but do not automatically check for changes". In my experience it it is not enough to just set the dropdown for the services you actually use. I had to set all the dropdowns like that. I never reported it (as a bug which I assume it is), so I'm happy to see others bringing it up :-) @mherger, if you read this.
