I had zero issues when I was running on a Win10 machine. It just worked.
But I now prefer a rPi4B, with attached USB drive, running
piCorePlayer. Entire setup is smaller than a paperback book, can be
located next to your router, and run 24/7 with essentially zero
intervention. I set one up for my brother a year ago (rPi3B+) and he's
had zero issues....uses it daily and I'm not sure he even realizes where
it is (in a cabinet attached to his router).

See:
https://docs.picoreplayer.org/how-to/

I know nothing about Linux, etc. But I can follow specific
instructions. From start to finish with the rPi, I'm up and running in
30 minutes or less.
