I'm late to this party, but thought I'd chime in. I've been running LMS on Windows from Win7 up through Win10 and it works just fine. I believe I started out back in the LMS version 7 dot something (not sure it was called LMS back in 2008 when I got my first Squeezebox) and am now up to 8.1.2. My 8.1.2 runs just fine on both my Windows Home Server 2011 (basically windows 7) and windows 10. My take on the subject is use the operating system your comfortable with.
