If you look at mp3tag as the de-facto tagging software that most of use there are 2 options available for multi-tagging
You can tag an Artist or AlbumArtist as "artist1; artist2" OR "artist1\\artist2" The former writes a single tag but LMS can use the ; to split into two database entries at scan time.
