I can't remember if I tried alarms when I first attempted this, it is certainly the easiest method to try first. Sync doesn't need to be spot on, in fact slight changes in sync give a different experience. Ideally all 4 discs would be played on 4 stereo players but I was using a Touch, two Radios and a Bluetooth speaker linked to Squeezeplayer on my phone. I now have another option with the ESP MUSE speaker. I seem to remember the main issue was the Squeezeplayer unpredictable delay so replacing that with the MUSE might help.
