SORTED IT! I pulled the plug on the Pi, rebooted the PC & it resolved itself. There was definitely something funny going on under the bonnet but I'm not able to work out what it was. Rescanning my music & hopefully I'll have some sounds again. Thanks for the advice offered. ;)
