Tony, Jim is "the fixer" :) Happy you have it figured out.
Note that if you check the recursive box of the parent (folder) , it should change the attributes for all of the children (subfolder and files). You mentioned that you changed individual files, should not be necessary. In fact, maybe you could just choose your main "music" folder and change all files recursively with one action? Not sure, try it. As for why, I have been wondering if there was a recent update to the QNAP OS that might have added a bit of extra security and this is a byproduct. I took a quick search and there is some related chatter on the web, but of course, not being a NAS guy, I didn't know what I was reading.
