Does anyone know how it works with nightlies and final release versions? I found the 8.3.1 here: https://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=8.3 What I'm wondering about is where one could find a final release?

The 8.3.x is considered the stable branch. Only bug fixes should go in there. So there's little risk a 8.3.1 build would break.
There are other Mac issues to iron out. Once I've figured those out I might actually release 8.3.1. Right now 8.3.0 is a bit of a pain to use on Mac, with different issues on different macOS or hardware versions...
