I don't know too much about Linux so I can't help you there, but when
you connect to SqueezeNetwork it doesn't matter, you bypass SlimServer
completely and can even turn your box off.

The two things you need to connect to SN are:

- gateway (should be your router, or your modem if you connect directly
to that)

- DNS server

You can find what DNS server you're using in your Linux box using the
ifconfig command IIRC.

When you say "refused", do you mean it can't connect or do you mean it
indicates you are being blocked?  Check your router or modem.  In order
for the SB to connect to it, it needs to be on the same subnet as the
device, usually 192.168.1.x or 192.168.2.x.  Routers can also block
connections by MAC address - is the SB's MAC address on the whitelist?
