Much as I appreciate all the hard work that went into Softsqueeze, it has been very unreliable and quirky for me, with frequent dropouts, frustrating hangs, and even a borderline system crash (it was sucking up 98% of my CPU!). So I looked around for alternatives, and found a thread or two about using Winamp as a slim stream player. This worked well, and I could bookmark the stream for future reference etc. But winamp may intimidate the novice user (read: most of our wives and children) with its plethora of features and menu options, so I tried to set up Windows Media Player to run a slim stream. There may be an easier way, but here's how I got it to work:
Get Slimserver up and running. From your slimserver web interface select a station and click play (I use MyPicks loaded with my SN favorites - see my thread on this nifty feature - thanks again, Andy!). Fire up WMP (version 10, which I recently went back to after a week of cursing version 11). In WMP - File/Open URL...type in your Slimserver URL, for most of us: http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3 Click OK/Play and the stream you selected should buffer and play. Now you need to save the stream URL as a playlist with a distinctive name (File/Save Now Playing List As...). To play the stream in future, start WMP, click the drop down menu "Now Playing List" (right panel top of WMP), select Open Playlist/From File, and voila there is your SN favorites list. To make life even easier, paste the slimserver playlist file directly into your Windows Media Player folder, now file/open or right click/open and select your playlist file. Clunky, but it works! Now if only I could figure out a way to synchronize the WMP OC feed with my SB.... -- Fleury ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fleury's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9783 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32453 _______________________________________________ squeezenetwork mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/squeezenetwork
