I really don't htink it would render a search useless it you only had partial information. I think there is just a change in sorting that is prejudiced towards putting any exact text matches first--even if they are only partially entered. If there is no exact match, it could still default back to the context search. Maybe I am just too linear, but that makes all the sense in the world to me :-). Another alternative would be two search options: Exact and "context" or whatever.
