Michael, Thanks for your post. I have been following your movements from MP3.COM to Linspire and now the Locker... Thanks for your efforts in disrupting the common practice, and shaking the market (sometimes, the wakeup call is more important than the actual direct effect).
Indeed, when you buy music, or any form of media, you should use it as you please. What if my car manufacturing is going to tell me I am not supposed to drive to a particular city, or I would get sued... I do not believe Music should be free. However the industry is artificially keeping the brick and mortar distribution alive. In the end, when you buy a CD, you do not only for the CD you purchased, but also for the hundreds of CDs that are not sold... This inefficient distribution channel is kept alive by keeping the price of internet downloads high. Obviously, the same inefficiencies do not apply here, so it adds no value. I do have a question, though. In the terms of using the locker, it is mentioned that personal information may be provided to copyright holders for license purposes (paraphrasing, I hope I got the intention right). What if I make a copy of my purchased music to the Locker... would I have to pay again for putting it there? In effect, I can listen to it in two places (family at home, myself in the office), so it is like having 2 copies of the CD... or is it seen as a personal back-up?
