It is possible to edit the ".version" files on your local installation
to cause SlimServer/SqueezeCenter not to nag you about downgrading your
firmware when you switch from SN back to SS6/SC7. I did this when
testing SC7 on my live system so I could switch back to SS 6.5.x
painlessly. Here's what my squeezebox2.version file for SS 6.5.x looks
like, which allows my SB2 and SB3 players (SB3 uses the same firmware
as SB2) to use firmware 81, 83, 84, or 86:
Code:
--------------------
# Squeezebox2 firmware
# from to
# from1..from2 to
1..81 81
82..83 83
84 84
86 86
# future versions may be downgraded to this one
* 86
--------------------
Logitech could make this better -- see my suggestion at
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41731 I admit that
Andy's point about QA is valid, but I personally think it's reasonable
for Logitech to ensure that the live SN and the latest SS/SC release
could work with the same player firmware releases.
