SN is working ok for me and I connect to the German server too (from London) It might be a Controller issue, can you connect your Squeezebox to SN via the web interface? (somewhere down the bottom of the page is Music Source). If so, it sounds like a controller issue.
If not, it could possibly be an issue at your end when you first started up your server - if Squeezecenter doesn't get an IP address when it first starts up it may refuse to connect out later - but if you always have your squeezebox connected to Squeeezenetwork, that can't be it.
