No you can't . You must use LMS and the third party plugin . I don't
know exactly why but it's some limitations in the old hardware on what
code could possibly be implemented and executed on them to fullfill
spotify's encryption demands or something like that .
The SB3 CPU/memory is to weak to upgrade for this purpose or else it
would have been done years ago .

So Radio and Touch are the only supported players .

However running a small server somewhere is not as intrusive as you
think ... I do that my boom would not have spotify otherwise .
