Yes - a beta feature. I must have tried it at some point, because there's a player called 'Player' with the 00:04 mac registered at mysb. That must be the Controller.
The Controller should be treated like a "real" SB. So yes, that makes sense. Just check the MAC address - you can find it on a sticker in the battery compartment IIRC.
