Well, it appears my longer post with lots of detail has not been approved yet. So the short version:
The Tidal streamUrls returned by calls to MSB.com are structurally correct. But they are apparently not universally valid and when requested by some players (all of mine) result in 403 responses. The same URLs run though a local cURL return the same 403 response, so we probably do not need to consider which players I am using. Conversely, streamUrls requested directly from the TidalAPI via a local Python app have the same structure.
