I agree fully that the official Spotify app has become bloated (podcasts, audiobooks, karaoke....) and full of strange functionality, like that shuffle stuff. That's why I use material skin to operate my Squeezeboxes, even when using Spotify. I also applaud the move from the bigger streaming services to lossless audio, but it is not a deal breaker for me: - Lossy encoded 320kbps Ogg/Vorbis is more than transparant in audio-terms. As long as Spotify is using the same audio sources for their upcoming lossless tier, I doubt that we will be able to hear any difference/improvements. And if they choose to use different source material for lossless, than that source material will be the main cause of the difference in sound, not the fact that it is lossless.
