You are probably right so I took the plunge last night and thanks to

I was able to get it set up and functioning flawlessly. No one is more
surprised about this than me as discussions of containers, images, etc.
is foreign to me so thank you.
Does this mean that I can now update Perle and DSM without concern of
issues with LMS?
Yes. The Docker image comes with all the Perl LMS needs and is
independent of the host installation.
