You can check the button hardware without LMS.
Can you get into the Boom firmware menu using the buttons (i.e. hold the <- down for maybe 15 secs). Then use knob (twist to up/down menu and press to select) to get to Current Settings->Factory Test -> Button test IIRC there is a button panel with a microcontroller connected to main board.
