A few months ago I was using WCCP to intercept the trafic from our Core router and
squid was complaining about too many redirect processes, in that case I only needed
restrictions to a couple of subnets, not the entire network, the squid version I was
using did not provided a redirect acl, but recent versions do.

But it depends.. if you want to give different users different filter profiles in SquidGuard then you need the access controls in SquidGuard.
I'm only using Squid ACL's, but not everybody can work very well with those acl's...
And in the past there were also a lot of discussions in this mailinglist regarding the performance between Squid ACL's and Squidguard...
