where am i supposed to run ./squid? i have tried it in the squid
directory and it says 'No such file or Directory'

  You normally don't start squid in that way ; just

  % ./squid

  presuming , the current directory contains the squid binary.

  Also and if you have a valid attempt , for starting squid; check
  squid's :

        cache.log

  watch for any fatal errors in there, for instance.
