have you tried running this in your terminal?

/usr/local/squid/sbin/squid

this is the usual location of the squid binary if you install it /usr/local/squid.

Subject: RE: [squid-users] squid fresh installation question????????

Dear all,
I have a linux box running red hat 8.0 with
squid installed
by default.

i have removed the squid default package
using webmin and
have installed and compiled new squid version 2.5 stable 5 in another
location
                (/usr/local/squid)

               Compilation and configuration worked out
fine, but now my
main problem is client pc cannot connect to the proxy to access the
internet.
To start my squid, i use
/usr/local/squid/sbin squid start,
but it seems that there are no process of squid running since
when i type
ps -ef|grep squid, i can't find any squid process.

Can anyone help me? thanks

gb.

You normally don't start squid in that way ; just

% ./squid

presuming , the current directory contains the squid binary.

Also and if you have a valid attempt , for starting squid; check
 squid's :

cache.log

watch for any fatal errors in there, for instance.

M.
