What is your default ulimit -HSn saying?

how do i check for the default?

Execute on shell #ulimit -HSn ,It will give the value of the FD

[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# ulimit -HSn 90000

did this previously but it has not made a difference. and yes, all
installs are done at root.

Do this, #ulimit -HSn 32768

i ran this command again, verified with ulimit -HSn (correct output) recompiled, and still got the ff warning

checking Default FD_SETSIZE value... 256
checking Maximum number of filedescriptors we can open... 256
WARNING: 256 may not be enough filedescriptors if your
cache will be very busy. Please see the FAQ page
         http://www.squid-cache.org/FAQ/FAQ-11.html#filedescriptors
on how to increase your filedescriptor limit

i'm getting desperate :(

Can you see the 32768 on the execution of #ulimit -Hsn

[EMAIL PROTECTED] fs]# more /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_local_port_range
32768 61000

It is good.

Do the above on both kernels. If you get the modified FD,then configure the squid.
Else there is a problem more to look-out.

Muthukumar.
