Really?
Really!
Almost all the request for windowsupdate results in a TCP_MISS/206:
TCP_MISS/206 2440 GET http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/WindowsXP-KB825119-x86-ENU_1b9f23b64b002d1e9d1eaba62f5f8fd.exe - DIRECT/211.39.137.158 application/x-msdownload
We get lots of hits in the cabpool and lots stuff is stored.
Do'nt think there is any cache savings.
It's very obvious when doing windows updates. When new updates come out the first download is slow (even with 2MB ADSL) and the rest are much faster.
Or perhaps, it is impossible to have any saving because different users will request different parts of the big block of data.
As far as I can see, most updates are in individual files and it's the files that are cached.
Is it possible for users to get the same identical block of data?
Yes. The same update will be in the same file and so should be cached.
What size is your maximum cachable object? Ours is about 300MB!!!! The high limit allows us to have all sorts of odds and ends in our cache.

Hi,
anyone has their squid cache slowed down by this website? Especially these few days? I notice a surge in the number of request to this site.
No. It's one of the most important websites for us to cache!
Microsoft release patches once a month (normally) on the second Tuesday. This month there are 9 critical updates so I imagine lots of downloading is going on...
