Are you using BerkeleyDB 3.2.9? The info on the sG website gives the impression that you can (if you wish) use Bdb 3.2.9 with sG 1.20 but it seems that actual experience of a few people is that you have to use 3.2.9. I know when I upgraded I did both for that reason.
