SF|NOIR, the Bay Area�s black arts & culture organization, invites you to attend the first annual San Francisco Black History Month Celebration on Friday February 22, 2002. The event, hosted by Mayor Willie Brown, will take place at the beautiful Palace of Fine Arts Theatre in San Francisco. The evening�s program consists of theatre, dance, music, and spoken word performances and includes a screening of the documentary film "Street Soldiers: The Story of the Omega Boy�s Club," narrated by Danny Glover. An exclusive after party will be hosted by Sophie�s Metrosoul. ................................ When: Friday, February 22. Doors open at 7:00 and the show begins at 8:00. The after party begins at 10:30. Produced by Avon Kirkland and narrated by Danny Glover, Street Soldiers is a moving, stereotype-smashing documentary about three African American juvenile offenders struggling to turn their lives around with help from the tough but tender Omega Boys Club of San Francisco. � The African American Shakespeare Company will perform a hip-hop version of Shakespeare�s MacBeth as an old classic is infused with a new beat. � Afro Solo�s Ode to Langston Hughes - A celebration of the life of Langston Hughes on the centennial of his birth. Thomas R. Simpson, founder of the AfroSolo Theatre Company, will perform a tribute to the prolific, legendary writer Langston Hughes.
