Ready your teams for the 8th Urban Iditarod Saturday, March 9th Noon-6 PM Free. ----> Event Description <----------------------------------------------- The barking is first heard somewhere across the tundra. Miles away, the dogs are already in a frenzy. Mushers whip their charges onward, and the lead dogs howl with pleasure. Terrified animals in the path of the race run for cover, as the teams come into sight. The sleds crest the hill like an Army, and move onward to their goal. Howling teams charge with delight as they approach the first way point: A bar. In the Alaskan Iditarod, more than sixty dog sled teams race across the frozen tundra from Anchorage to Nome. In our urban version, teams of "dogs" lead by a musher will pull their sleds (shopping carts) through some of San Francisco's most touristed areas. These teams of barking humans must negotiate through the unrelenting and unforgiving dangers of San Francisco's urban frontier. As an incentive to run, dogs and mushers alike will have several "rest stops" to replenish lost fluids and discuss tales of mayhem. The course is over three miles, so dogs and mushers alike need to be ready and able to run their tails off. Sharpen your wallets and open your shopping carts - The 8th Annual Urban Iditarod is calling you, and resistance is futile. Start putting your teams together NOW.
