Meridian Music presents Christopher Adler and Alan Lechusza Friday, March 1 8 pm $10 ($5 for students, seniors, impoverished artists) ----> Event Description <----------------------------------------------- Meridian Music: Composers in Performance presents: Christopher Adler - khaen (Thai mouth organ) Alan Lechusza - saxophones Metal with Reeds ... Reeds of Metal features two artists whose work negotiates the boundaries between improvisation and composition and between tradition and experimentation. Christopher Adler composes and performs music for the Northeast Thai/Lao free-reed mouth organ, khaen, drawing upon Northeast Thai traditions and his experience as a composer and performer of Western contemporary music. He will perform his compositions as well as traditional Northeast Thai-style improvisations. Multi-instrumentalist and composer Alan Lechusza will perform works for solo saxophone which depart from the jazz and avant-garde improvised traditions and explore diverse modern genres. He will perform his own compositions and works by Vinny Golia, Anthony Braxton, and Christopher Adler. Christopher Adler and Alan Lechusza collaborate in the improvising jazz and creative music ensemble, the Christopher Adler Trio, which performs every Thursday at Galoka Jazz Scene in La Jolla, CA. Meridian Music: Composers in Performance presents concerts the first Friday of each month in the intimate setting of Meridian Gallery. The series has been underway since Fall 1998 and is curated by Philip Gelb. See <http://www.meridiangallery.org/MGMusic.htm> for more information. We do not accept reservations. We have an intimate performance space that often fills up, but we rarely have had to turn anyone away. Upcoming concerts: April 5, 2002: Brandon Labelle, electronics May 31 - June 2, 2002: Meridian Gallery in collaboration with the Pauline Oliveros Foundation will present a 3-day retrospective of the work of Pauline Oliveros in honor of her 70th birthday featuring the Deep Listening Band, Circle Trio, The Space Between, a very large orchestra of virtuoso new music players from around the world and many smaller ensemble pieces performing compositions of Pauline's from 1960 - 2002. The festival will take place at the Lorraine Hansberry Theater in San Francisco, one block from Meridian Gallery. Fall 2002 - Winter 2003 will feature Bill T. Roper, Monique Buzzarte, Suzanne Rawcliffe and many more! Proposals for future concerts are always welcome.
