EROShambo last performance and cast party
Saturday Dec. 14
9:30pm
$10-15
----> Event Description <-----------------------------------------------
If you've been meaning to come to OmniCircus to see the
EROShambo erotic robotic cabaret, NOW'S the time!! After a 9 month
run, EROShambo is closing!! AND we're having a BLOWOUT final
show and cast party, and you're invited!!
Junkyard fusion ensemble DeusMachina is performing EROShambo -
a robotic erotic ritual exploring some of our cultural Weapons of Mass
Distraction: sex, money and religion. The action in EROShambo takes
place in the RUSTY LADY, a surreal, robotic strip joint located in the
dark undermind of our urban landscape.
DeusMachina features the twisted, mournfully surreal songs and
vocals of Frank Garvey (Jamboree Ralph), with Angela Brown (Dark
Orchid), Geoffrey Pond (King Ubu), Stuart Hall (Happy Jack), Adrian
Herbez, Cynthia Weyuker, Genevieve Guertin, and Lisa Thomas, with
lighting by Harry Roche. This is a band with an experimental mindset,
a mysterious presence, and an original fusion of rock, rap, and
industrial-surrealist performance.
The group includes the ROBOTIC ENSEMBLE of the OmniCircus, with
HUMPER the robotic hooker, GOBOY the mechanical beggar,
GODFELLA the robotic streetpreacher and PLOWGIRL. the
mechanical junkie. EROShambo also features a cast of
digitally-animated live puppets (VIRpts) including the WHOLE DAMN
FAMILY and HIBOY. The action of EROShambo takes place in the
RUSTY LADY, a dream-like strip club from the dark undermind of the
urban nightscape. WARNING - THIS IS NOT A SIMULATION!!! You'll
never look your vacuum cleaner in the face again!!
Here's what reviewers are saying about EROShambo and
DeusMachina:

Ever see a strung-out stripper dance with a robot? Think Ally Sheedy
inthe movie "Short Circuit" but now trap her in a dark
drug-inducedrobotic cabaret and remove her top. If that's what you
see, you'reprobably attending a performance of EROShambo at the
OmniCircus-a surrealisticgallery and performance space for actors,
painters, sculptors, musicians, virtual reality animators and robot
creators. Walt Disney created the happiest place on earth. Frank
Garvey, thedirector of OmniCircus, didn't. Unlike the well preserved
dignitaries inDisney World's Hall of Presidents, the animatronics from
Garvey's teamlook more like decaying bodies. Part theater. Part aural
nightmare. Part robotics demonstration. Part strip show. Just walk into
OmniCircus and you've entered a nightmarishrobotic red-light district.
Turn left to meet "Humper," the roboticwhore fully equipped with a
20,000 volt stun gun right where it counts.Avoid "Plowgirl," the junkie
and "Goboy," the panhandler who oftenleaves the confines of the
gallery to bother attendees of the SanFrancisco Opera...

"... a mesmerizing experience...(it) comes together to create a
surrealistic and unclassifiable sound-narrative. But most importantly,
it works like a charm. DeusMachina's House of the Deafman is the
kind of record you put on when you want to enter a totally different
world, regardless of your affinities with avant-garde or world music;
the kind of record you cherish, simply because it can be compared to
nothing else."

"The music conjures up all its magical might and embraces you in a
dream that elevates you into a surreal sensual sensitivity. ..Layers of
musical, historical, cultural styles shift like breaking ice in spring, and
you see right through the transparency of vast epochs. Magnificent!
Inspiring! Like nothing Ive heard!

There are whispers, chants, echoes, voices that seem to materialize
out of the shadows and dissipate into the mist. Disturbed and
disturbing. Chilling. Rich in aural imagery. Place yourself in a dimly
candle-lit room, drink enough to cross over from euphoria to despair,
and listen to this dark, haunting sonic journey through an anguished
mind. And when it's over, House of the Deafman lingers like the
nightmare that wakes you in the dim pre-dawn hours. The sinister
robotic 'puppet show' of the OmniCircus is as unsettling as the Lady in
the Radiator from David Lynch's Eraserhead. And I mean that as both
an endorsement and a caution. It is evocative and memorable.
Garvey's CD is a remarkable realization both of his troubling artistic
vision and of the capabilities of audio-visual media. This is deeply
creepy, and highly recommended.
