A Tribute to Grain

----/ Event Description /-----------------------------------------------

The subject of Inquiry is Grain,
defined as: (gran) n. Abbr. Gr. The inherent aspect of film emulsion.

Silver crystals clumping together cause the perception of grain;
creating densities that in turn form the image. With increasing grain
the overall photograph becomes less sharp, less clear, this grain
brings texture to the photograph, resembling fine particles of sand.
Faster speed films consist of larger silver crystals, with increasing
size comes greater sensitivity to light.

As photographers slowly being thrown into the age of digital media,
we have always held a respect for the dimension which grain adds to a
photograph. It draws our eye in a way that is unique and fascinating.
We recognize Tri-x as a driving force for the idea of Grain as a
medium. Beyond its gritty texture, Tri-X pushes the photographer past
the simple boundaries of light and forces exploration in darkness; an
object in light taken for granted and becomes an inspiration for
random acts of insomnia.
