I'd been using Squirrelmail for several months and just a week ago
discovered the need to share a MySQL addressbook. So I looked and found
a patch to do this.

The Squirrelmail version I am using is 1.4.1 (RPM) with "MySQL Global
AddressBook Backend" version 0.0.1.

I have a couple of questions:
1. Is there a more recent version of this patch?
2. Is there a written procedure to install the development? I tried
using "patch" with no good results.

I guess that the problem I have when trying to execute the patch is that
the files are placed in different places than yours. The RPM places
addressbook.php is in /usr/share/squirrelmail/functions. In other hand,
abook_global_database.php is never created.

One more Q: Do I have any other alternative for public addressbooks with MySQL? LDAP simply scares me. :-)

Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciated

Regards,
