In SquirrelMail 1.2.11, what does redirect.php do?

Would redirect.php cause any login problems to SquirrelMail using
Internet Explorer 6 SP1 in Windows 98 and/or Windows XP?

We have some customers having problems with users logging into
SquirrelMail 1.2.11 where they are seeing redirect.php appearing in
Internet Explorer the status area when they keep seeing the login web

page.

redirect.php is an integral part of SM's login procedure. If users
can't log in, please describe exactly what happens (your explanation is
unclear) and check your IMAP logs, etc. And post your OS, PHP, Web
server, SM and IMAP software and version info.

I thought my description describe this problem.

When users try to login to SquirrelMail 1.2.11 after entering their username and password, the web page refreshes where the users remain at the login web page. The users are seeing redirect.php appear in the Internet Explorer status area when this problem occurs. This is leading them to think that possibly the redirect.php program is causing this problem.

This mail server is running on Red Hat Linux 8.0 [kernel-2.4.18-26.8.0], PHP version 4.3.1, Apache/1.3.27, and imap-2001a-15.
