It logs in and goes briefly to redirect.php and then back to login.php?
This is highly suspicious, since there is no code in SM that would do
that.  Do you have any plugins installed?  Deactivate all of them and
try again.  Also, check your IMAP logs to see if users are actually
getting logged in at all.

Oh, and an upgrade to SM 1.4.2 isnt' a bad idea, either.
