Okay this at least makes sense to me as to what I am seeing going on. Thank you! > 'ls /usr/lib/locale' or 'localedef --list-archive' should show compiled > locales. ls command works with older glibc version. localedef command > works when "ls /usr/lib/locale" shows only /usr/lib/locale/locale-archive > file. > > I suspect that your Japanese locale is in utf-8 or shift_jis. > Here's what I get: toboot # localedef --list-archive | grep ja_JP ja_JP ja_JP.eucjp ja_JP.ujis toboot # What's interesting here is that I do have ja_JP.eucjp. Is that what you want? Or does the acutal string need to be "ja_JP.EUC-JP" in order for things to work correctly? > If you don't have ja_JP.EUC-JP. you can > a) compile it with command > 'localedef ja_JP -i ja_JP -f EUC-JP' and restart apache. > Just for kicks, I tried the following: toboot functions # localedef ja_JP -i ja_JP -f EUC-JP toboot functions # localedef --list-archive | grep ja_JP ja_JP ja_JP.eucjp ja_JP.ujis toboot functions # > b) find your squirrelmail installation, go to locale/ja_JP/LC_MESSAGES > directory, open squirrelmail.po file and put fuzzy mark on header. > > [ ... ] > > -- > Tomas > I also tried to set the fuzzy mark and recompiled the ja_JP locale with compilepo. I still am not having any luck. Is there a finer-grained way of seeing where the string is getting mutated from the locale out through the webserver?
