Maybe I can add something useful to this thread.

I too am receiving this message but it only started happening after I downloaded PHP 4.3.9 and compiled it under SCO OpenServer 5.0.7.

If I put back the original 4.3.6 libphp4.so in apache/libexec, squirrelspell works perfectly. Is there something I need to do when compiling PHP other than:

./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-apxs=/usr/lib/apache/bin/apxs

By doing this I actually have two versions of PHP on my server; the original in /usr/bin and /usr/lib with the new one in /usr/local/bin and /usr/local/lib (I don't like burning my bridges until I'm 100% sure everything works).

My reason for installing the new PHP is to get mysql functionality into PHP.

Hope this helps someone smarter than me to figure this out.
