I have specifically configured my server NOT to use SSL. The bug is that
SquirrelMail is using SSL (i.e. HTTPS) when it should not only if if it
configured to open a new read or compose window (rather than reusing the
same window). It is therefore nothing to do with any SSL faults (if there
are any) in Mac OS X Server.

I still don't think you've bothered to do the research I've asked you to do at least twice now. If SM really had such a bug, I think it would be a very popular topic in the tracker and on the mailing lists. But if you're so sure that you're the expert and you can ignore our advice and that you've cornered this "bug" yourself, then why don't you prove it and show the HTML source of the page from which you click "Compose" (or read) that has the SSL link in it. Then show us the code that made that link.

I had looked at the source of the window (i.e. view source in web-browser), but
could not see anything in it that looked like a URL. However I have now found a
support article from Apple Computer (my server) which did solve the problem and
it appears to be an Apache issue (although maybe specific to Apple's current
version of it).

See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107982

Thanks.
