Are you running PHP with safe_mode enabled? Are you running PHP with
open_basedir directives?  Both of these options can be checked by creating
a test file in your squirrelmail directory, and putting the following code
in it:

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

Save it, and open the same page in your web browser.  For example, if you
named it mytest.php, you'd open it http://www.myhost.tld/mytest.php.

You may also want to run src/configtest.php it will give you some useful
information as well.
