Installing qmail, and configuring it to smarthost mail through your primary 
mail relay, is going to accomplish exactly the same thing as adding ESMTP 
client code, except that the whole thing will continue to work when the 
primary mail relay goes down for maintenance. 

Otherwise, when your mail relay goes down, people will start screaming at 
you because they can't send any mail.  Is _that_ a good idea?
