I have a dual-proc PIII 500MHz, 512MB Ram, single 10/100 NIC, plus a
couple of SCSI disks for system and logging and a couple of mirrored
UDMA66 IDE disks on dedicated controllers for mail storage.

I've got about 12,000 folks using this with Postfix + Courier-IMAP/POP and
SqWebMail. djbdns for local DNS cache. I'm doing filtering on delivery
with maildrop, and using the quota features, both of which add a little
bit of load. We do something like 100k mails delivered a day.

But that isn't 2000 folks checking at once. You don't have enough RAM for
that ... and absolutely don't have enough disk I/O bandwidth ... but it is
certainly enough to handle mail delivery for that many users.

You'll probably find that with 2000 users you don't get more than 5-10
folks checking at the same time.
