After some consideration and a little effort with using sqwebmail with userdb for authentication I finally got it running perfectly without being root. What I want to know is if it is necessary to run sqwebmail as root (and if it is necessary, why is it necessary) if you use the different authentication methods sqwebmail supports. This is coming from the standpoint that nothing you run should be run as root.
