You are both using vpopmail, right? There is a serious bug in the released version of vpopmail. Either upgrade to the current development version (and *then* recompile sqwebmail), or configure sqwebmail --without-authdaemon. This problem occurs again and again. I think Sam ought to put in a configure test on the vpopmail version, so that courier and sqwebmail will refuse to build against old versions. He has actually threatened to remove support for vpopmail altogether. (If by any chance you're not using vpopmail, then please describe your configuration. Authentication is rock-solid reliable for me.)
