You say nothing about your environment, but let me guess - you are using vpopmail/vchkpw aren't you?

If so, it's a bug in vpopmail. Go upgrade to the latest version.
sorry if this isn't the righ place to ask, but can you give me
a hint or a link on how to safe upgrade the vpopmail...
it's strange that i have no problem using POP3 to check mail
using subdomain...
If not, please describe your setup more completely. What O/S and version, what authentication mechanism you are using, etc.
