You must be an exception. Most people expect to see 2 of 6.
Whatever. But it puzzles me, how most people, after deleting one message of six, would still expect have six left?

Well, I find both to be true. -- And that's just with myself.
I usually find that if I'm in "box maintenance" mode... where I'm trying to clean out messages primarily from the index screen... then I usually expect the count to update and the messages disappear. In that mode, I'm thinking "how many junk messages do I have left to filter out?" (i.e. "Are we there yet, Papa Smurf?!") when I hit delete each time.
But then, when I'm actually reading my mail messages more at an individual message-by-message level, I usually find that I prefer the count to be static, so that it acts more like a progress bar in my head.
*shrug* Although, that's just me... and I'm admittedly rather a bit of a weirdo in many ways. =)
